Tim Harvey

Tim Harvey has served as our pastor since 2015. He was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1999 and received degrees from Virginia Tech (1992) and Eastern Mennonite Seminary (1999). Prior to becoming pastor at Oak Grove, Tim served as Youth/Associate pastor at Dayton (VA) Church of the Brethren (1996-1999); New Hope (Patrick County, VA) Church of the Brethren (1999-2004) and Roanoke, Central Church of the Brethren (2004-2015).

Pastor Tim is married to Lynette, Math Department chair at Patrick Henry High School. They have three adult children: Emily (married to Jeremy), Zach (married to Celia), and Rose.

In 2011-2012, Tim served as Moderator of the Church of the Brethren, and presided over the 2012 Annual Conference in St. Louis, MO. He has also served the wider Church of the Brethren in several other capacities, including a five-year term on the Church of the Brethren General Board (2003-2008) and on the Review and Evaluation Committee (2015-2017).

One area of interest for Pastor Tim is writing. He has written extensively for Messenger: The Magazine of the Church of the Brethren, as well as various publications for Brethren Press, including the 2013 Advent Devotional Guide for Brethren Press; Sunday School lessons for A Guide for Biblical Studies and occasional worship resources for the back page of Church of the Brethren bulletins.  He has also written for the Roanoke Times and Foreshadow.

When he is not in his office, you might look for Tim in his woodshop at home.  If he’s not there, then there’s a good chance he is out for a run, training for the next half-marathon on the calendar.
